New York, NY

The tour of Shinjo Ito’s art work made its international debut in New York City on February 21st, 2008. The exhibit was shown at the Milk Gallery, an institution specializing in photography in Manhattan’s hip, artsy Chelsea neighborhood. The exhibit was well received by New York’s artistic community with more than 14,000 visitors.

The spirit inspired by Shinjo Ito’s art was by no means confined to just the gallery.  While the exhibit was in New York, Shinnyo-en through its Six Billion Paths to Peace initiative literally built a path to peace in the heart of Times Square. Participants were encouraged to submit their path to peace by a beautiful display on the world-famous Reuters screens.

Carnegie Hall was another famous New York institution graced with the inspiration of Shinjo Ito. Toshi Ichiyanagi shared shomyo, traditional Buddhist chanting through his Ensemble Origin, a group of musicians who skillfully combine Western and Japanese styles of music. Shomyo was performed by the Shinnyo-en choir.
