| Dr. Margaret Miles is Professor Emerita and the Former Dean at Graduate Theological Union Berkeley. An historian specializing in early Christian art, Dr. Miles has traveled with the art during the United States portion of the exhibit. Drawing from such diverse sources and Christian theology, modern theories of art, and the ancient Philosopher Plotinus, Dr. Miles has brought an expert’s understanding of the western tradition of art to the Japanese Buddhist material.
One example from her lecture was the intersection between Buddha nature and the idea of incarnation in the Christian tradition, both of which she explained are immanent properties in humankind. Dr. Miles has given informative lectures at the New York, Chicago and Los Angeles exhibits.
