The teachings of Shinnyo-en emphasize that an integral part of seeking one’s enlightenment is to have compassion towards others. In this spirit the Shinnyo-en Foundation (please create a link to www.sef.org) was established. Through the generosity of its supporters the foundation has flourished and is currently sponsoring a number of initiatives including the Six Billion Paths to Peace, an annual retreat and several conferences and workshops throughout the year.

Six Billion Paths to Peace (please create a link to www.sixbillionpaths.org) encourages people to create a more harmonious world through their actions -- no matter how small. While Shinjo Ito’s art exhibit was in New York, Shinnyo-en built a path to peace in the heart of Times Square. Participants were encouraged to submit their path to peace by a beautiful display on the world famous Reuters screens.

The philanthropic work of Shinnyo-en however is not limited to the continental United States. The Na Lei Aloha Foundation (please create a link to www.naleialoha.org) was established by Shinnyo-en to promote the “aloha” spirit of Hawaii. Through its grant making arm, this foundation seeks to preserve the cultural diversity of Hawaii and the family values of its people.
